JOB OPPORTUNITIES AT THE WASHINGTON CENTER
The Organization
The Washington Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Olympia Washington, is the largest Performing Arts Center in the South Sound region, serving audiences and performers in Thurston, Mason, Lewis, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties specifically and all of Southwest Washington generally. Our two theaters – a 983-seat proscenium theater and a 125-seat black box theater – stay busy throughout the year, hosting dozens of local performing groups that call us home, as well as the 30-40 professional touring performing arts events presented directly by the Center.
Opened in 1985, the Center has a budget of approximately $2M and a fulltime staff of 12. The building is owned by the City of Olympia and has been operated under contract by the Washington Center from its inception. Tom Iovanne has been the Executive Director of the Center since 1989.
The Washington Center could rightly be called the grandchild of the OIympic Theater, a vaudeville house built on the same site in the 1920’s. It was renovated into a movie palace named The Liberty Theater in the 1940’s, and then taken down to one exterior wall and completely redone as the Washington Center. The Center is governed by a Board of 23 community leaders, and has grown to become a well-respected institution in the South Sound.
