SPECIAL NEEDS/ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES
The Washington Center is committed to working with those who have special needs. Please call us if you
have needs other than those listed here, and we will do what we can to meet them.
- Wheelchair Access
Both of the theaters at the Washington Center are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair and companion
seating are available in the orchestra section of the main theater, and in various locations in the
black box, depending on how the room is set up. Three of our four lobby spaces, as well as the black
box lobby, are accessible, and both theaters have accessible rest room facilities. One of our three
box office windows is at wheelchair height, and a buzzer is available to help get the attention of
our ticket sellers.
- Hearing Assistance Devices
Both of our theaters have hearing assistance systems. The main theater has an infrared system, while
the black box has an FM system. Free headsets are available from the house staff.
- Large Print Programs
Large print programs are available for Washington Center-presented performances. Simply request one
from our house staff.
- Mobility Assistance
We have a wheelchair that can be used for assistance in getting from the street to a theater seat.
In addition, we have several aisle seats with armrests that pivot out of the way to ease wheelchair
transfer, or for those with leg casts. Our staff is prepared to lend a hand, however they are not trained
or allowed for safety reasons to perform transfers. They will be happy to store and retrieve walkers, crutches,
wheelchairs, etc.
